Resources

This page lists several civic resources useful for maintaining our quality of life in Friendly Neighborhood.

Points of Interest in Friendly

The Friendly is known for creativity and community. Little free libraries, tiny art galleries, and poetry stations dot the neighborhood. Artwork can be found while walking along the streets. Check out our community contributed map for neat stuff. Contact us to add your point of interest to the map.

Parks and Schools

  • Adams Elementary School - Playfields, play areas, basketball, and running track are available.
  • Amazon Park - Multi-use paved path runs along the entire east border of the Friendly neighborhood. It also has a wood chip running path, a huge off-leash dog park with water and a separate small-dog area, skate park, amphitheatre, pool, community center, and play areas.
  • Civic Park - The Eugene Civic Alliance is raising funds to build a new sports and recreational complex on the site of the former Civic Stadium, which was destroyed by fire in 2015.
  • College Hill EWEB Reservior - Although not a city park but owned by Eugene Water and Electric Board, this space is open to the public by an agreement between EWEB and the College Hill Reservoir Watch, a group of Friendly neighbors. Members of the group walk the area to remove litter and report on unsafe conditions. Greg Giesy led an effort to construct a wheelchair accessible ramp to the reservoir on Lawrence between 23rd and 25th with a matching grant through the city and FAN. The Eugene Astronomical Society holds stargazing events here called "First Quarter Fridays" on Fridays closest to the moon's first quarter, and occasionally on additional dates during the clear summer months.
  • Friendly Park - Play area, exercise stations, picnic tables.
  • Jefferson Park - This park borders the Friendly neighborhood to the north. It has an open field and a portion of the Fern Ridge Path runs through it.
  • Madison Meadow - Saved from development by members of the Friendly neighborhood starting in 2004.
  • Washington Park - Ball fields, basketball, paths, play area, water spray play, restrooms.
  • Washington Park Community Center - Eugene's first community center. Meeting rooms, wifi, kitchen, tables and chairs.
  • Wayne Morse Family Farm - Although one block outside the Friendly neighborhood, this park has lovely foot paths that meander along a seasonal brook and through a natural wooded area with oak and douglas fir trees, ferns, and berries. A huge off-leash dog park has a large meadow surrounded by gravel paths and with water for hot summer days. Restrooms, a picnic shelter, grass field, and a historic house are also available.
  • Westmoreland Park - A former airport, now has wood chip and paved trails, disc golf course, ball fields, play areas, track, exercise stations. Adjacent to the park is the Arts and Techology Academy public school, which opened in the fall of 2017.
  • Willard School - Currently closed, but the property is held by the Eugene 4J School District.

Neighborhoods

The Eugene Neighborhood Leaders Council is a civic organization composed of each of Eugene's 23 recognized neighborhood associations. The group meets monthly to discuss current topics, learn about programs and services, work collectively on issues, share ideas and information, and to promote the interests of Eugene Neighborhood Associations. FAN participates by sending a representative to its meetings.

The City of Eugene maintains information about all neighborhood associations.

Housing

The Springfield Eugene Tenant Association is a non-profit, public service organization that is dedicated to renters' rights and interests, providing education, assistance, and empowerment to tenants.

Social and Community Services

  • A Family For Every Child Mentor Program - Connects enthusiastic, dedicated, caring adults who want to mentor youth in foster care or at risk in our community.
  • 15th Night Partnership - Youth who are "new" to the streets are more likely to become chronically homeless if we do not intervene within 15 nights. The 15th Night is a broad community partnership designed to prevent youth from going out on the street and to intervene quickly if they do. Host homes are sought in the community that are a safe and stable place to call home for youth while they complete their secondary education. Both short-term (up to 30 days) and long-term providers can help.
  • White Bird Clinic - A collective environment organized to enable people to gain control of their social, emotional, and physical well-being through direct service, education, and community. It runs the CAHOOTS (Crisis Assistance Helping Out On The Streets) program, a 24/7 mobile crisis intervention in the Eugene-Springfield Metro area. White Bird Clinic is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization.
