2024 Mural Celebration and Summer Social, Aug 18This free, family-friendly event is an annual tradition with friends and neighbors gathering on the grassy expanse behind the Community Center.
Sunday, August 18, 4:30-7:30 p.m. Washington Park, 2025 Washington St. Bring your own blanket or chairs, and picnic dinner We will celebrate our new mural: “Earthly Reverence: Every living thing is our relation.” The project has been a big success! Mural Mice Universal created the mural based on the drawings made by 200 children from Adams Elem., César Chávez Elem., 4J NATIVES Program, Boys & Girls Club of Emerald Valley, and Eugene Arte Latino. The City has approved the design and the mural will be painted in July. We are grateful for support from a City of Eugene Neighborhood Matching Grant, Lane County Cultural Coalition/Oregon Cultural Trust, and donations from FAN neighbors. A huge thank you to Friendly Street Market for hosting a 5% Donation Day on May 11 which gave us the final funds needed for mural painting and maintenance. The Mural Celebration program will include Native American stories by Marta Lu Clifford, drumming and Round Dance with Nick Sixkiller, and dancing by children in Ballet Folklórico Colibrí. Community organizations will have information tables, some of which will focus on taking care of the Earth. We hope you all will join us at our Mural Celebration and FAN Summer Social. Remember to bring a blanket or folding chairs, and a picnic dinner if you wish. Help us celebrate our new mural! |
