Sustainability Committee

The FAN Sustainability Committee builds relationships in our community so we can live more lightly on the earth and meet our needs closer to home. "Sustainability" means whatever creates and maintains the conditions under which humans and nature can exist in productive harmony.

Below are some examples of greener living, and of respecting and living in harmony with our place.

Projects in the Friendly neighborhood:

  • Are you a Master Recycler, Community Plastics Collector, or a neighbor interested in plastics collection in FAN? If so, please submit your contact info to be a part of our FAN plastics recycler network. We will contact you about upcoming FAN plastics recycling events.
    Plastics recycling update
Yes, I want to get involved!

  • Friendly Park Care Days — A neighborhood effort, in cooperation with the City of Eugene, to maintain and care for Friendly Park without the use of pesticides.

  • Westmoreland Wetlands Enhancement Project
The goal of the project is to remove invasive non-native plants to help native plants grow and flourish. These wetlands have protected status due to their significant populations of several native plants, including two plants with the largest populations in Eugene.

Eugene and beyond:

  • Friends of Trees Eugene — A community based non-profit organization that holds tree planting parties in the fall and winter to bring people together to care for urban trees and natural areas.
  • Sustainable Eugene — City of Eugene Office of Sustainability.
  • Beyond Toxics — Leadership for a clean and just Oregon.
  • PurpleAir – Air quality monitoring in real time. Devices can be purchased, installed, and feed live data to a public map.
